Like most insects, roaches lay eggs. Roaches have very high survivability because they can produce eggs both sexually and asexually. That means they can have intercourse or just pop out eggs with their own genetic material instead of a split of two roaches’ genetics. Only females can produce eggs like this, obviously.

The most common cockroaches in America, the American roach (shocking) and for some reason the German cockroach. They are both preferable to a warm, damp environment for mating and laying eggs. So roaches in your house are likely making sweet sweet love under your sink or behind your fridge. Or in the basement or even in your bathtub if you don’t use it much.
Now roaches don’t lay eggs like most fish, in large groups of individual eggs, they lay them in a capsule containing about 50 eggs that are compact and filled with eggs. This capsule is called an ootheca and is small enough to fit in cracks in the wall.
The capsule is about a quarter-inch in size. They go from white to brown over time and when they hatch all hell breaks loose as 50 tiny roaches come streaming into your home.
Incubation of the eggs is different for every species 4 weeks for the German roach and 8 for the American. But both produce others and both can fill your house with thousands of baby roaches in a very small amount of time. And with no natural predators around to hunt them, they are free to roam.
Can you get rid of these egg sacks? Is such a thing possible? They are so small and so well hidden. Well, luckily you don’t need to actually find them. What you do have to do is clean vigorously and regularly. Clean everywhere, behind all appliances, under sinks, and everywhere else you can find. The more you clean the more you can prevent roaches in the first place and prevent them from mating.
