Do wasps return to the same location every year?

Do wasps return to the same location every year?

Wasps are a terrifying and violent threat that is a great risk to anyone who lives on the same property as a nest. Wasps are generally aggressive and territorial but several wasps species are not. The most dangerous wasp species in North America are the yellowjacket wasps. Yellowjackets tend to make nests in the ground but some subspecies make nests in trees. For this overview, we will be focusing on ground-dwelling yellowjacket wasps as they are the most common and most dangerous wasp infestation to have. If you are unsure where the nest maybe you should stop mowing the lawn or using loud equipment that shakes the ground as that will cause the yellowjackets to come out of their nest and attack, assuming they are in danger.

If you see an increase in wasp activity taking place around your property, contact Wasp Control Oakville  for quick and safe removal.

In most cases, a yellowjacket nest cannot survive a winter. There are other situations like if a nest is built inside a building that is heated they can continue building the nest forever. If they build a nest deep in the ground in a place with a mild winter they can also become perennial. These are dangerous situations as the wasp nest is very hard to find and you could end up with thousands of wasps and a nest that is over five years old without even realizing it. This happens more often than people realize and it leads to the main topic. Wasps can revitalize an old nest, and that nest does not need to have been started by the same queen or even the same species. Wasps will find any safe place to start their nest, the queen, who has just spent six months in hibernation is desperate to find a place to lay her eggs. If she finds an empty nest, ready for use, then they will indeed use it. This is why it is very important to remove a nest after you have killed it. It is recommended that you either hire a professional or if you want to attempt it yourself, take plenty of precautions. You must first get two large cans of insecticide preferably made specifically for wasps but it is not necessary. Next, you will wait until late at night when the wasps are asleep. You then empty both cans of insecticide into the opening of the nest and then leave. The wasps will slowly die over a few days, you can then remove it and tightly wrap it in a garbage bag and put it in a freezer for 48 hours to guarantee the nest is dead.
